Equipping Your Windows PC for the Internet

About Brian Hill

Professional Experience

I worked for 3 years as a professional Java software engineer until I decided I wanted to focus more on computer hardware. I have been working at the state's largest hospital since 2005 as a computer systems support technician (that means repairing computers and printers, installing software and general computer troubleshooting). I started my own computer repair business in 2004 and run it in my spare time.

Training

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Clarkson University as well as a minor in Mathematics. While at Clarkson I was involved in a team which built solar electric vehicles and raced them in national events.

Personal Experience

I have a wide variety of systems experience, including Windows, MacOS, AIX, Unix, and BeOS. My years of programming have touched BASIC, C/C++, HTML, Java, shell scripts, XML and perl.

I have a lifetime of experience using personal computers, both IBM compatable PC and Apple Macintosh. My first computer was an Apple IIGS that I played games on and learned BASIC programming. I have owned several PCs and Macintoshes as my personal machines since then. Since 1997 I have built all of my desktop PCs from scratch, and have kept my Macintoshes running well beyond their years by performing upgrades to them.

Most of all, I just love troubleshooting and fixing computer problems. They will always happen, so I might as well try to have fun at it, right?
